Well, I just experience my own blackout. In trying to get out this newsletter during a lighting storm we lost power twice. Once for over three hours. The problem with my old laptop is that the battery only lasts for 2 hours. So I couldn’t use my laptop nor my desktops and when electric came back my Roadrunner cable connection to the Internet was still down. I wonder if DSL connections go down as often as my cable since my telephone service is more reliable than my Roadrunner and I know it doesn’t work in a power outage since it requires a modem but what if the modem had backup power? If you know send me an e-mail. Every time the power goes out I have a routine to reset all the clocks, reboot the computers and check the refrigerator. During the extreme temperature days, whether it is cold or hot, we notice the difference without electric functioning in less than an hour. The next home, my retirement one, will be better insulated to hold out the extremes temperatures better while costing less to heat and cool. Thank God for my propane fireplace in the cold weather. During an outage in the cold weather we were out of electric for several days and the gas fireplace kept the house warm. My old wood fireplace needed a fan to circulate the heat and during another outage we needed to stay next to the fireplace just to stay in the house. My retirement home would have two gas fireplaces. We are adding another section to the site called, “The Emergency Kit”, which will have what everyone should keep on hand to survive a week without power. Remember not having the right batteries, a non-electric can opener, and an old fashion telephone that wasn’t connected to an outlet? Well, hopefully we can come up with a list that will help us make it more comfortable during an outage in the future. Now you can but a generator of a inverter that runs off the car and can power several outlets. If you had renewable energy you could be generating your own electric and have electric during a grid problem. You could also be sending electric out over the grid and help the community by supplying it with electric while making an income. This is truly distributed electric generation over the grid.
It has been another week of power blackouts, both in the west and in London. Now more and more people are experiencing outages because of the increased demand while prices for electric continue to climb.
The cause of the blackout in the Northeast has yet to be found. So if it isn’t known no action can be taken to avoid it again in the future. Are you preparing for the next one? How many people will be affected by the next one?
Gasoline prices are reaching an all time high. What if we had electric cars and solar or wind at home to recharge them. While the gasoline prices are skyrocketing the Strategic Oil Reserves are again stockpiling oil but the EPA says that there is no relation.
The EPA is approving older polluting power plants since they say that there is no alternative. What if they supported renewable energy at the same level that they support these older power plants? The United States continues to see an epidemic of asthma and many of our schoolchildren show some affect of asthma. It may be getting worse. Ozone warnings will continue as we open more discussions about Global Warming.
Is there any sponsors out there who are interested in supporting a TV show on how people can generate electric for their homes and as a career. Imagine a reality show that would not only promote the sponsors but also people and the world. Every day people turn electric switches on/off yet have no idea as to how they get electric. The current problems with the grid are educating many people but they believe that they cannot do anything. A TV show could have a wide audience and be requested overseas. It would have sponsors from home improvement companies, renewable energy and environmental groups.
According to the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, 229 billion kWhs’ of energy is lost annually in the delivery of electricity. Have you ever wondered who pays for it? The main reason is because of the long expanses of the power grid. If we created more distributed power we could loose less and thereby make it cheaper.
France raised their estimate of deaths from the heat wave to over 11,000. We take air-conditioning for granted in the US, but it wasn’t so long ago that hundreds died from the heat in Chicago and every year people getting fans rather than using air conditioning. We need cheaper electric and distributed electric generation!
Support for the disabled could be a way to justify some Energy Farms. Installation of wind and solar can be part of the budget and designs could make it easy for disabled individuals to perform some of the maintenance around a site and thus give them more independence, allow them to contribute more everyday to the community and have a better quality of life.

Imagine what would happen to the Power Generation Industry if it were to be attacked like the tobacco, firearms. Tires and fast food industries. It certainly has had and is having a negative effect more widespread than tobacco and it is worse than the food industry which is giving us a wider beltline. What happens when the lawyers start to sue over the health effects of fossil fuels on the human species? Science has proven that we have been polluting water, air, oceans, plants and now ourselves by using fossil fuels to supply our electric. The Renewable Energy field would be forced to grow at a rate that would be unbelievable even when compared to the computer era.
Humans certainly need electric, we have been given the tools to produce global electric using renewable resources but have not given it the attention that it deserves. Meanwhile every power outage makes us more determine to become independent. People rush out to buy generators, if they can afford them, to ensure that the convenience of electric and the safety is always available to them.
